Why is mod_tempfname.py broken?  Because it creates path and file
names with spaces?

I agree.  This was the point you made last Wednesday and you stated
you were going to implement it that night.  Now that rc1 has been
released, will you do it or should I?  I think you have a better
chance of correctly making the change that you proposed.
