Imo, the problem is that Leo would have to do AI in order to determine whether non-def could should be placed in the the preceding or following node. We can't generally use markup in @auto trees, because such markup would not persist. I suppose we could have hints either in the root @auto node or even in settings. For example, a hint could say that inter-node stuff in file x should be placed at the end of the previous node. I know this is a fairly serious issue for some, but I am already trying to juggle at least one too many balls.
