The "fool" is saying something like, "well, if you despise C so much, why do you want to get down in the dirt in order to translate it? Why not let the C folk carry on in their less-than-ideal environment?" I have to admit, I am tempted by this logic :-) It looks like a lot of pretty grimy work. Still the ability to *reliably* translate C programs into Python is also tempting. And sometimes grimy work is enjoyable in its own way... To repeat, the quality of tests largely determines whether it is even conceivable to do the translation reliably. Yesterday I realized that the existence of *C* tests does not automatically mean that one can *reliably* create corresponding *Python* tests. That is, the question of whether program A is equivalent to program B has been transformed into the question of whether the *tests* for program A are equivalent to the *tests* for program B In general, there could be problems, although in practice I think they won't be significant. Still, it's a potential gotcha... EKR -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "leo-editor" group. To post to this group, send email to [email protected].
