I've seen a very clear statement [1] from Edward. It's from 2008 and he says "more than 10 years ago (now 14) he decided not to deal with escape mechanisms" .... That's why I thought, "why not use the existing mechanisms" (see my post about the @plain directive). I'm pretty sure all the "default" stuff can handle it. May be a new plugin is needed but, that's it.
