Interesting thought - I wonder if it could be made more general than just warning on sort in @<file> though. I've often accidentally moved a node, most often Ctrl-D when aiming for Ctrl-F. If it was a non-intrusive warning, like a message in the log, it would be most convenient, but do you always notice things in the log?
