Does Leo require the @xxx sentinels to appear in the body?

I would prefer to not see Leo housekeeping notes, would like to be able
to <select all>, <copy>, <paste> and not need to remove Leo-added content.

If they must remain, workaround functions for
use by scripts would be very welcome.
