It would definitely help if I only had access to the Pieces Library
Manager, but that isn't available in the Linux version.

Great! I would still need the Pieces Library Manager though, wouldn't I?
I'm probably able to port your code to Linux, but without the Pieces
Library Manager it's probably to no avail.

I can't see the number in the status bar. Perhaps it's just available
in the Windows version.

Is this available in the Linux version? I've tried to enter piece
numbers in the search box, but that doesn't work.

Leonardo:
You seem to do heavy work in the trunk, would you still be interested
in patches for the 0.75-version? E.g. For adding piece number display.
Or should I wait for you to complete 0.76 first?

I might to be able to just extract the part of the Pieces Library
Manager that handles imports of Philo's files into a separate
commandline program.
