The thing is, its easily fixable. The list administrator just has to
go to the sourceforge list admin page and change from open list to
subscriber only.

If this list was high traffic with a low spam load then open list 
might be ok. With low traffic and high spam load, it just doesn't
make sense to keep it open.

The reason I ask is because I'm a keen user of the Nedit text
editor. For many years I've been using Nedit linked to lesstif
and while there have been a few niggly little bugs it has
mostly been ok. However, the latest release of Ubuntu links
Nedit against OpenMotif and I now have at least 3 really huge
glaring bugs (two different kinds of segfault and one text
corruption of the text I'm editing).

I have in the past tried to track down the minor problems
with lesstiff, but never managed it successfully. However,
since OpenMotif is so horribly broken I might be willing to
have another crack at it if other people are also still
working on this code base. If OTOH lesstif has basically
been abandonded, I would probably be better off replacing
Nedit with another text editor that uses a more common
widget set.
