I was not even aware of the ftp server stuff in the editors guide. I think for BLFS the entry might be useful, since the editors update the packages themselves, but for lfs, I have been doing it. Also the structure of the lfs ftp repository is a bit different today as described there. If you want, I can describe the current layout, etc.
