I'd like some clarification on one point then. IIRC, I read in a post by Alexander that the changes to the book made it so that ssh would no longer connect properly to non UTF-8 systems. In order to do that you had to run ssh through screen. This would be a *massive* inconvenience issue for me. Is this the case just by following the new book instructions, or is this only the case if you set your locale to a UTF-8 locale?

I tried looking for the error using a recently built LFS LiveCD. I've been using en_US.UTF-8 as a locale with it recently, and ssh both incoming and outgoing has worked fine for me.

I recalled that Justin said he had trouble with the German UTF-8 and ssh, so I gave that a shot too. Again, I was able to ssh to other boxen and I could start up the sshd and log into it from another machine.

Output of 'locale' on the CD:

lfslivecd:root | Do 09 Feb 2006 18:56:10 CET | ~
# locale
LANG=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_CTYPE="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_TIME="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_COLLATE="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_MONETARY="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_MESSAGES="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_PAPER="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_NAME="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_ADDRESS="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_TELEPHONE="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_ALL=

Am I missing something? To be honest, I can't even remember what the problem exactly is (or where on the lists it was mentioned), so I'm pretty sure a cluebat is in order.
