I wouldn't want to completely drop them, but maybe they can be split
them out the way we usually do with documenation depenencies. I.e.,

Optional Dependencies
...

Optional Dependencies for building the documenation
...

Optional Dependencies for running the testsuite
Valgrind, Check

I wouldn't have any problem with that.
