The spelling of many words in the UK is related to the French
language, and, as Canada clearly has a very strong French influence,
it's not surprising that, generally, their spelling is aligned with
our own here in the UK.

Somebody from Germany told me the other day that French people had
said to him that they considered the English language "to be just very
bad French".  Personally, I think that's a bit of an exaggeration.
