I really liked the idea that all of the necessary sources were right there on the CD. I have performed the complete LFS 6.1 build three times in the last month and have thoroughly enjoyed every minute spent with it. I have gone on to implement much of the BLFS book and have started exploring HLFS. I LOVE this stuff! I have played with various Linux distros in the past with varying degrees of success. I am relatively new to Linux. I've spent most of my career working the Windows/NetWare worlds. After seeing what a source buildup looks like, I'd be scared to use any random distribution as the host for a LFS build. If for no other reason, the LiveCD makes for a completely known host environment, with hardware being the only variable in the build. I can't imagine why anyone (particularly a Linux newb like myself) would want to build LFS any other way.
