Hi,
This does not seem to be the case. Otherwise, how would the same kernel when
copied to my old lfs installation boots to show the eth0 being brought up?
Can anyone help please?

Probably the driver for your eth0 device was not included in the kernel
during your LFS build?

Hi,
I have a working lfs-6.1.1 (svn-20051019) on my P-III laptop.
I have installed "merged branch" lfs-svn-20060423 on another partition.
There was no problems during install of the new lfs. I have configured
kernel-2.6.16.5 to include network card and all the other devices as in my
earlier lfs-6.1.1.
On booting my new lfs from the new partition, I get the boot-message
"Interface eth0 doesn't exist [WARN]"
I then copied the newly-compiled kernel-2.6.16.5 to my old lfs-6.1.1 and
booted it with this kernel. Here, the eth0 was detected as normal and
there was no problem.
I have installed the new lfs twice just to eliminate any errors that may
have gone undetected during install. The second time I took care to ensure
that no error went un-noticed.
No "warning message" is also received regarding "missed events" of
device-detection, like mentioned in Sec-6.55 Udev-088 of the Book.
I, therefore, conclude that the problem has cropped up as a result of
installing the "udev-merged branch" and because of droping "hotplug".
Has anyone else also experienced this problem?
What could be the cause and remedy of this problem?
Thanks & Regards
