The only reason why the branch doesn't have a boot loader like what you 
suggest is because I haven't gotten around to it yet. :)

I was actually thinking of re-writing the whole boot loader section and 
have it be more of an 'exercise for the reader', offering a number of 
suggestions about the various options available for various architectures.
