"Linux distro" is to wide a theme to give you any recommendations. Do you need to compare certain distros? Or what is the question you like to answer in your project? For a start, what comes up to my mind is this: Compare a binary distribution like Fedora to a more lfs- or gentoo-like way of doing things and compare this to the way the open source BSDs (FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD) are doing things. There might also be other mailinglists more appropriate to this sort of questions, but for lfs's side, we might be able to give you some help here.
