modules, a quick workaround might be to select *all* the standard
ethernet drivers as *modules* and then just rerun make followed by
make modules_install (and, of course, reboot so that udev can sort
things out).

 Alternatively, boot from your host distro or a Live CD which is known
to have a working ethernet on this machine, and use lsmod to work out
which driver is needed.
