The only thing I did different was to replace references to 
aclocal-1.12a into aclocal-1.12 within some packages. Although automake 
and especially aclocal is not mentioned in the required base software, 
without it is not working either. By the way, the required base software 
looks highly outdated, not?

I just killed automake 1.12 on my system and replaced it with 1.13.1. I 
just start all over again and see where it will fail again.

I'll come back when it is solved or when I run into the wall once again.
