To use an svn version of jHALFS then becomes a matter of installing
subversion, and its dependencies, and libxlst, and its dependencies
including docbook. Is this correct?
In addition to what version-check.sh tests, you need:
- sudo (and it is highly suggested that the user could use it without
issuing a password)
- wget
- libxml2
- libxslt
- subversion
docbook is not needed, only the BLFS tools use it

Thanks again, Pierre. I had another thought (oh no!) in thinking about this
paragraph.

I don't remember having to use sudo in Ch. 5. Installing, configuring and
using it is no problem, but I was just wondering.

My host system will be LFS-7.5 without a graphical environment. I hope the
version-check.sh doesn't reveal any discrepancies, but I've screwed up
before. :)

Never mind, Pierre. I installed subversion in {,B}LFS-7.4 and checked out
jHALFS. I read the README (duh!) and it answered all my questions including
the one about sudo. It seems obvious to me, but I need to ask anyway just to
make sure. Do I run jhalfs from the mounted /jhalfs in the mounted /mnt/lfs
partition?

The reason I'm asking all of this is that I need to check out jhalfs in
LFS-7.4, and, once it's checked out and exists on the LFS-7.6 partition,
switch to LFS-7.5 to run it.

The directory where you check out jhalfs should be on the host partition, and
has to be completely distinct from the /mnt/lfs/jhalfs directory.
What I think you could do:
- start the 7.4 machine and mount the 7.5 partition on /whatever
- cp -R <dir where you checked out jhalfs on 7.4> \
         /whatever/home/<jhalfs-user>
- halt the 7.4 machine
- start the 7.5 machine
- mount the 7.6 partition on /mnt/lfs
- cd <dir where you copied jhalfs>
- run make (do not tick "Run Makefile")
- Once you are happy with the configuration, run:
  "make -C /mnt/lfs/jhalfs mk_LUSER"
(make -C avoids to have to cd to the /jhalfs dir on the 7.6 partition)
Then continue with your scripts...

Crossing fingers for you...
Pierre
Sorry our responses crossed in cyberspace. Thanks a million for what you wrote here. You provided specific steps for what I was thinking in general.

Since you've been so kind to respond, I feel like I must tell you why I'm in this predicament in the first place. I really screwed up my LFS-7.4 build and some necessary libraries are still linked to /tools. I had to use /toolz when I built 7.5 and got delayed in completing it so I have no graphic environment--stilling working on compiling the kernel. I want to start 7.6 when it's first released and build a complete system.

You have been wonderfully helpful and I'm really greatful. Thanks again.

Dan
