Bruce, if you don't mind, I'll postpone building with jhalfs. A big part of what the package management my scripts give me is not only the documentation, but immediately after building I have it make a tarball of everything that was installed which makes it possible for me to "easily" clone the virgin system. I've built up a certain infrastructure around that. ;-)
Another thing is, I like going through the process so I KNOW what's in my system. That's worth a lot in this day and age!
