Well I am using Arch Linux which dual boots with windows-8.1 as the host
system with version 7.7 0f the book.
I am trying to build keeping in mind to use the more-control-helpers pkg
mgmt. It says in the hint to copy the src/su to /tools/bin.
Now, su is not a part of the coreutils package, but it is a part of the
shadow package.
The hint is not updated (the hint is ok for use with LFS 6.2).... it
is now only a way to manage packages.
However when I give the command it says no such file or directory.
What exactly am I doing wrong.
thanks and best regards
My impression is that anybody using that hint is just building up
problems for themself. Over the years we have seen lots of weird
and unique problems (on the support lists) which turn out to be
caused by people following that hint. OTOH, perhaps there are
lots of people who used the hint without apparent problems and never
subscribed to the lists - I can only go by the posts I have seen
over the years.
I use this hint to manage my desktop LFS system with success.... but, I
do many tests before to understand
very well the mechanism of this hint ( many LFS build ;o) and many LFS
destroyed ;o) ) , and I write scripts to have my package manager ready
to use.
However, in your case I think you are perhaps not ready to try any
deviation from the book (once you have completed and successfully
booted a first build, with enough of BLFS to make the system
minimally-usable to you, then trying another build with changes
(scripting, package management) is a great way to learn.
Agree with ken, if this error (file not exist with the cp command) is an
issue for you, don't use this hint, because
there are many other issues to solve ( ie permission, ownership)... but
it is the best way to learn. ;o) This hint is not user friendly... I
think that the better is to build LFS with no unclear commands before
using this hint.
