Gentlemen (Bruce, Ken, Thanos) ... Thank you for the reference to
/tool/lib/pkgconfig/check.pc.  It was indeed missing.  I must have failed
to "make install" at the last of that section.

Once I re-accomplished section 5.14, kbd-2.0.3 proceeded smoothly.
