That prompts me to have another go at something I was going to say yesterday (I decided not to because the overall tone of my post seemed too negative, and at that time nobody else had replied). Our build method basically pre-dates the mass-market offering of distros without a root account (to me, ubuntu started that) - nothing wrong with doing that, but it *does* make things harder for people who use the system to bootstrap a new system. And I agree that having the root account makes it easy to trash a system - good backups (and the ability to restore from them if the installed systems can no longer do that, e.g. with some Live CDs) definitely help. Oh, and I do use sudo on desktops (with xbindkeys, to allow me to suspend to RAM from the keyboard). But we all have different use-cases. ĸen -- `I shall take my mountains', said Lu-Tze. `The climate will be good for them.' -- Small Gods -- http://lists.linuxfromscratch.org/listinfo/lfs-support FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/faq.html Unsubscribe: See the above information page Do not top post on this list.
