That symlink fix was for building the newer binutils, not glibc. Actually, looking over those posts, I'm still not sure what caused Bruce's glibc build problem. Anyway, I think Frans' glibc build problem is due to not setting up the chroot environment properly: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/lfs/view/development/chapter06/chroot.html at the time glibc is built, what does echo $PATH say? It should contain /tools/bin and so m4 will be found.
