I have a minor suggestion about these ...
I've just come across your special code for 'Microsoft FTP' again and
this time it gave me an idea. Why not formalise this.
1) Have lftp search for user specified match strings in the login banner.
2) If it finds a particular string change the site closure string to
one defined by the match.
So (bastardizing your syntax ...)
set use-motd-match yes
set motd-match/msftp.site "Microsoft FTP"
set use-abor/msftp.site no
set sync-mode/msftp.site yes
set use-stat/msftp.site no
set timeout/msftp.site 10000
set use-rest/msftp.site no
Then if lftp sees any msftp it can automatically downgrade as well as
_upgrading_ if it sees an know good server like ProFTPD.
