I just backed up to the version 2.6.5 on this machine and the problem persists. So the problem has nothing to do with lftp, it must be related to my system environment.
It is a fresh new install of redhat 9, and I updated all my rpm packages to the latest after the installation using the redhat up2date utility. I think most of the subscribers in this mailing list has been working with unix/linux for years. Could you please share your expertise and give me some advice as what might be causing this problem?
