I fixed the problem! I discovered that I only have problem when connecting to sites using saved bookmarks. So I deleted my bookmark file and recreated them inside the lftp then all the problems are gone!
The bookmark file was ftped to my new machine. I think that some problem occurred during the transfer and lftp doesn't like it anymore. I still feel a little wierd as lftp doesn't complain when it uses the bookmark file and the file looks okay in vi. But I am happy as I am using the latest 2.6.6. I was in such a bad mood as I was afraid that I need to find an alternate ftp client, which is impossible as the lftp is the best!
