Some/many people got so fed up with that jokes called stagefright and openmax that re-implemented the internals using gst.

AFAIK TI's official solution for OMAP4 is through
OpenMAX IL, and it's only Rob Clark that developed libdce, and
gst-ducati, and all that stuff which is not OpenMAX. Also, I'm not
saying syslink is esoteric, I'm just saying it's not on vanilla
kernel, nor will it ever be.

OpenMAX is a wonderful joke being run for a bit too much. It is a sort of standard API not ABI compliant, so using it directly would open an ocean of pain (e.g. different library name, different struct sizes and such)...
