I do realize that this will end up disabling it in shared library
builds for raspberry pi, where this feature was targeted.

additional instructions but none of this branching seems to be an hot

Would it require another free register? I've been trying to do it, but got to the point when it seemed that all registers are used, so it'd require spilling some.
