The stuggle all religions ultimately face is separating culture form the essence of the religion. Example: Christianity is seen by many in the West as an example of narrow-minded, bigoted, and rigid views of people and the roles they should play in society. Go to parts of Asia and Christianity is seen as a revolutionary liberating force which elevates women and other people (especially the common folk) to higher, and equal levels, based on the way Jesus of Nazareth treated those groups. Same religion, different perspectives. Similar parallels can be made to Buddhism and no doubt Islam. If the quality of all the great religions, or even atheism, was based only on what a particular culture did at a point in time, none would be worthy of support. Greg
