Anna,

Precisely the opposite: Libertarian concepts are based ON human
psychology, and therefore WORK. By "work", I don't mean they
magically bring forth a perfect paradise or utopia. I only mean
"work better than any other alternative". I only mean LESS crime,
LESS misery, LESS total societal harm - than other competing
systems. You use a common dissenter's trick: point out
imperfections and use them as excuses to disregard the whole
system (even though the system defended is a proven worse one).

I understand your point, but you are making more than just a case
for computerment. Since plenty of your statements indicate a
serious misunderstanding of humanity and government, and a
sentiment for socialist systems, you are your own best argument
against computerment. If YOUR program were to rule the world, it
would follow the same dire path of taking a small problem and
"solving" it with a general increase in total societal harm. Your
program would follow history's (and your) path: misidentify the
source of the problem, magnify it, legislate a force-based
non-solution, cause a worsening of the problem and much
collateral damage, use said worsening as an excuse to retain and
increase legislation, and of course steal from the public to make
them pay for it all.

Your short sight is not understandable. Since you live in America
you should know that the main source of today's violence and
crime is the government's drug war; not inequality or any other
unavoidable element of civilization. Your fear of society being
overrun by troublemakers is as baseless as your understanding of
the source of the trouble. Certain criminal elements will
probably always be a part of human societies, but only as a very
small percent. Enacting far more destructive legislation as a
"solution" is the real source of the trouble.

Your statements about mob & war violence display incredible
misunderstanding. I'm sure other here will elaborate more on the
destructive power of prohibition and war.

Mark, no -
you just do not understand the point I am trying here to make.
All theories usually fail because they do not take into
consideration human psychology.
While a free market capitalistic society where people decide
about the fruits of their work sounds like an ideal model,
nevertheless it creates huge inequalities which as a consequence
will not allow the system to function as planned. Where is
inequality, there is potential for violence . No society can be a
success if it is plagued by riots and crime. The only solution
would be to preventatively pacify the potential troublemakers,
and this requires a system of welfare and other social services,
which are not exactly fitting into a free social model as
proposed.
Your shortsightedness is understandable though. You are
idealist who thinks that to have a paradise, all it takes is to
make people free to earn money and enjoy it. You do not take
into consideration the jealousy and greed of those who have less,
but believe should have more. To keep the troublesome elements
in order, the system would have to allow for expansion of
militia powers. The more militia, the more potential for
corruption. There will be always someone who has more money than
you to pay to enforce his own way over yours. To have a regime
in order to have a minority to enjoy the fruits of their labor
is a moral suicide.
It is not true that humans are inherently good, rather they are
good unless they see an opportunity to profit by being bad.
Being bad can also bring well earned profit. It is only a moral
issue how it was earned. As I have read somewhere, many Mafioso
consider themselves to be the honest capitalists.
Who do you think tortures people in Iraq and elsewhere, some
demons? No, the honest good people. A potential for evil is in
every man and given an opportunity, it will blossom. Inequalities
create such opportunity.
Do you see a way out?

Anna
