USMC, 71-74; Honorably discharged (medical, scars to prove it) BTW, Bush did not complete his service. Not that it was uncommon in those days for a member of the Guard to skip his last few months. I'm sure it is only a coincidence that he disappeared the same month the Guard instituted drug testing. > Interesting factoid I heard the other day: Do you realize George W. > Bush is the ONLY US President in our entire History to have piloted > a Jet Fighter? Think about that for a second. Bush's Dad, No. > Eisnehower, No. Nixon, No. Reagan, No. Certainly not Clinton. > And Carter, who had a respectable service record as an Officer in > the Navy served mostly on Subs. > He is no slouch. He is also the first POTUS to get a Masters. He ain't stupid. And Carters service was pretty rigorous. Slackers don't serve on subs. Wasn't Daddy Bush shot down over the Pacific? I seem to remember a photo op with the Japanese pilot that shot him down. I could be wrong. > To call Bush a "Top Gun" is a stretch. But it is kind of cool, that > we have a Commander in Chief who actually piloted Jet Fighters. > It is also irrelevant. Those that did not serve have every right to criticize a POTUS that sort of served. Just like I can criticize Clinton's war mongering even though he (and most of Bush's cabinet) got handy little deferments to stay out of 'Nam. PEACE Steven R.
