Rothbard considered him to have been a poor general; ill-suited to
what Rothbard thought the appropriate battle style - gureilla - of the
revolution. He also considered him something of a political 'player',
with high ambitions. Rothbard apparently did not buy into the
'reluctant public servant' myth surrounding Washington.
Of course, *after* he became president, we had the Whiskey Rebellion.

Rothbard hated and had little tolerance for statism. Washington was a
quintessential statist; not at all a man of the sort of the early
agitators for freedom, like Hancock or Paine. Rothbard thought highly
of the original thinkers of the revolution; Washington just wasn't one
of them.
