I agree with you on this one.  McCain also said that the recent Supreme 
Court decision upholding habeas corpus was "one of the worst decisions 
in our nation's history".  Speaking alongside McCain, his cohort Lindsey 
Graham (R-SC) said that liberal judges can't be trusted to know the 
"standards for release" from prison.  Rather, only soldiers are 
qualified to decided when a prisoner should be freed.

An American citizen held at Guantanamo was one of the parties to the 
case, so these statements are directed at all of us.  McCain didn't say 
so himself, but Graham would put us on the brink of military 
dictatorship, once soldiers begin to replace judges.

I remember as a child wondering how the citizens of the Wiemar Republic 
ever allowed their protections to be dismantled.  Was not the danger 
obvious?  The answer of course is that it was, but no one really 
believed the worst would happen, until it did.
