# Heh, always a good idea :-). HSE is high speed external, HSI is high
# speed Internal.
Discovered the CMSIS Periph pdf on the ST site, which clued me in
on this point ;)
I had (for fun) popped a 1.8MHz crystal I had lieing around on the
bench in on pins 5/6 and on 3/4 and it didn't impact anything, so I fired
off the question. I'll consult the datasheet in the morning to find the
appropriate pins to hook up a crystal to, dig out an actual 8MHz crystal,
and to find out what support the crystal needs - it likely needs a couple
small caps to ground to help stabalize it, anyway.
I imagine doing these things will settle the question.
If not, I'll post again.
Coming from AVR8 and PIC8 world, the documentation is vast and
spread out; those had self contained simple datasheets, where here of
course there is the heavy ARM stuff, the reams of ST stuff, etc. Needle in
haystack but I'm coming around.
My goals are simple for this first stage ..
- GPIOs working - check! LED blinks.
- Get speed up to full 120MHz - should be easy given libopencm3 :)
- Get timers going - for controlling video signals for example, I
need fairly precise timers; not looked into them much but hopefully
libopencm3 will simplify that a lot as well
- Funcalls in response to GPIO signals (ie: bitbanging drivers for
various peripherals.) Should be easy enough.
Fun times ahead!
Thanks for writing,
jeff
