Ah, yes, that's that combination of (1) gcc giving an incomprehensible warning about its own headers and (2) the autotools adding the -Werror option of their own accord. One workaround is to edit src/Makefile and remove the "-Werror" from CXXFLAGS; another may be to set the CXXFLAGS environment variable to something that doesn't have "-Werror" when running the configure script.
