This change in the payload might save few MB of space, it is true. OTOH, it
would exclude some older distros that people still run on their machines (this
is the target of the upstream packages mainly). If you need lean and mean
packages, there are the ones produced by debian maintainer himself that use all
possible system libraries and might as well use the payload that gives the best
compression. For upstream binaries, we chose the non-exclusiveness that bz2
payload gives.
I really don't want to go into long discussions in bugzilla about whether this
is a good choice or not. Instead of wasting time in that, I will rather code
some more. OTOH, if you want to provide custom builds with maximum compression
possible, it is always possible since LibreOffice is a free software and the
sources are accessible for each release. The git tags are also public.
