--- Comment #4 from ady <[email protected]> --- Calc has the possibility of saving and using different values in those cells. When you merge cells, Calc asks you to select one of three different possibilities regarding those values. Not every other spreadsheet tool allows you these possibilities. By behaving as you request, Calc would be affecting other cells without having the choices that are already available. It is not Calc's choice; but the user's choice. You can copy the value from the first cell into the others, or use some kind of series, or whatever. Or nothing, leaving the other values as they were before merging. Your choice. Additionally, imagine changing your mind about the merge. Whichever values are there, Calc is able to keep them (depending on your choice while originally merging). By changing the behavior as you request, this would no longer be a possibility. The simple procedure to get what you want *for your case* is to copy the values and then merge. You could even use a formula in those other cells, pointing to the first one, so it would be even easier to modify all of them at once later-on. The alternative is to be precise with the formulas and the references to precedent cells. This is not a bug, and the current default behavior is adequate in order for the current possibilities to be relevant / valid. If you find other spreadsheet tool that allows the same merging possibilities that Calc offers but with a different default behavior, please let us know. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
