--- Comment #5 from Jörn Kaster <[email protected]> --- (In reply to ady from comment #4) > Calc has the possibility of saving and using different values in those > cells. This is the behaviour when you merge cells that has already values set. This behaviour is a advantage over other spreadsheet tools. > > By behaving as you request, Calc would be affecting other cells without > having the choices that are already available. But then i will ask for a fourth choice that has the function that all cells will get the value from the first cell. how this is technically solved, as a formula that this function will set in the respective cells or something like a pointer to the first cell in the lower spreadsheet data structure, is left to someone who has the knowledge about calc. Important for me is the following. The fourth choice must be cognizable for the future. Why, look at the bottom. > > Additionally, imagine changing your mind about the merge. When i have selected the new fourth choice (explained above) during merging, i would like that calc recognize that selection when i change the value of a merged cell area in this way, that all cells would hold the value of the first cell that is displayed in ui (like i mentioned above, how it is technically solved is unimportant for me). The behaviour is the important thing for me. then the behaviour is like it is displayed in the ui. > > This is not a bug, and the current default behavior is adequate in order for > the current possibilities to be relevant / valid. The important thing for me is, that the way how it is displayed in ui isn't clear in what choice i have selected before. This is important in company area where it is normally that one person is creating a spreadsheet and many other use this sheet or expand it. In this case when i change a spreadsheet that anyone else has created and defined merged cells, (i think) most people expect that the value that is shown in the ui for the merged cells would apply to all these cells. I think most people won't understand why a merged cell show value a and possibly all cells but the first have different values. I find it cumbersome to define in every cell but the first cell of a later merged cell area a formula that reference the first cell to syncronize those merged cell area. So long story short. Is it possible to implement such a behaviour (fourth choice) for calc. I would also vote that this is the default choice. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
