Most documents today are written, shared, and read on screens. They are printed much less often than before. Because of that, I think a sans-serif font makes more sense as the default. Serif fonts can still be a good choice for books, long texts, or printed documents, but they do not have to be the standard for every new document. 2. Microsoft Office has used a sans-serif font as its default since 2007, first Calibri and now Aptos. Since Microsoft Office is by far the most widely used office suite, many people are used to new documents having a sans-serif font.
