FWIW

1. On the French Wikipedia, the entry for "Lettrine" [1] presents an example of
Drop Caps with the second line shifted.


2. "Typesetting dropped capitals with LaTeX" (the lettrine package specs) on
page 1 says:

The \lettrine[<options>]{<letter>}{<text>} command accepts various optional
arguments to control the size and layout of the dropped capital and match
the requirements described in the books
