We are talking about the formatting of an entire block - typically, a paragraph - part of which is being copied. In this case, the paragraph style must be ignored by the copy operation. It appears that this works as expected if the paragraph style in question is a predefined style. If, however, the paragraph bears a user-defined style, this is carried along into the target and disfigures it.
