--- Comment #2 from Regina Henschel <[email protected]> ---
Why do you think it should create a parabola? The control points of the
rectangular Bézier-curve are located on the edges of the rectangle. When you
distort the rectangle, the control points remain on the edges of the resulting
shape and the edges thus remain straight.

Perhaps I do not understand your creation. Please attach a file with a shape
for each intermediate step.

The Bézier-curve in LibreOffice is a cubic Bézier-curve, see
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B%C3%A9zier_curve#Cubic_B%C3%A9zier_curves. In
contrast to a quadratic Bézier-curve there is not one common control point
between two adjacent curve points, but you have two independent control points.

Are you looking for a way to create a parabola? To get a parabola as graph to
y=x² use the (relative) points P0=(-3|9), P1(-1|-3), P2(1|-3) and P3(3|9). On a
page in Draw, you could use the positions P0(7|4), P1(9|16), P2(11|16) and
P3(13|4), for example. When you have drawn this curve, you can leave point edit
mode and scale and rotate the curve to your needs.
