I use larger icons on the tabbedCompact interface, because my vision isn't great. This causes some important icons to disappear behind the ">>" icon. To get around this in 26.2, I unticked various icons so they were no longer displayed. This allowed the important icons to fit onto the screen. I can no longer do that, so the tabbedCompact interface is no longer very useful for me. I've tried the full tabbed interface, but it doesn't render well (I'm using an appimage in Linux Mint) and takes up too much vertical space for my liking. I've used GroupBar Compact in the past, which is ok, but not a "complete" UI because it leaves many functions stuck behind the main menu. I don't pretend to understand the technical reasons why the functionality to select / deselect icons displayed under the tabbedCompact interface has been removed. All I can say is that for me, it's a huge step backwards.
