            Bug ID: 174005
Summary: Calc and Writer freeze ("Not Responding") when saving
files or opening Tools > Options
           Product: LibreOffice
           Version: 26.8.1.1 release
          Hardware: All
                OS: Windows (All)
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: medium
         Component: Calc
          Assignee: [email protected]

Hello everyone,

We are running into a severe freezing issue with LibreOffice in our company,
and it is completely halting our daily workflow. Up until about a month ago,
everything was working perfectly. The issue was first reported to us around
October 2nd, so it might have started slightly before the 26.8.1 update, but it
is definitely still happening in the current 26.8.1 release.

The Problem:
Whenever we make any change to a file and try to save it (either Save or Save
As), both Calc and Writer just freeze and drop into a "Not Responding" state.
It doesn't crash to the desktop; it just hangs forever. Furthermore, if we make
even a tiny modification to a file (even a newly created blank one) and then
try to open the Tools > Options menu, the exact same freeze happens.

I also checked the Windows Event Viewer right after the freezes, but
LibreOffice doesn't leave any crash logs or error events at all. It just
silently hangs.

This mainly affects .xls and .xlsx files. Converting them to .ods sometimes
helps temporarily, but due to our external workflows, we absolutely must keep
the original .xls/.xlsx formats.

What we've already tried:
We initially suspected it might be a network or printer timeout issue, so we
tried all of the following to isolate the problem, but the application still
freezes:
- Tested modifying files on both local hard drives and network drives.
- Created a brand-new blank document from scratch.
- Disconnected all network printers and completely uninstalled all printers
from the Windows system.

As a temporary workaround, we tried using Portable LibreOffice 26.2.4. We
managed to convert some .xls files to .ods to make them somewhat functional.
However, when we tried to open some of those converted .ods files, we just got
a completely blank white screen.

Has anyone else run into this specific freeze recently, or does anyone have any
suggestions on what else we can check? We are completely stuck right now.

Thanks in advance for any help!
