Ok I tried with MSO 2013.

First of all, each of these problems should be in their own bug report
(vertical text not being vertical, image placement).

Unfortunately, when I edited the .dot file with the vertical text problem in
MSO 2013, the produced new .dot file created a document in MSO 2013 where the
vertical text was not visible anywhere. It *was* visible in LibreOffice, going
horizontally inside the text area.

When I edited the file with header image placement problems in MSO 2013 and
inserted new images in place of the existing ones, there was no problem in
LibreOffice with their placement.

In light of this, it is evident that the .dot files would need to be edited in
the same Microsoft Office version as they were produced in. I simply cannot
produce reliable anonymized versions of them.

Furthermore, the .dot is a binary format and obsolete. It is questionable, if
we should sacrifice resources to support it.

I will add needsDevAdvice to request developer input.
