Thanks for thorough checking of my hastily written proposal, which was meant to
check whether I found a valid "simple" description (but written for those who
already understand the basic idea). 

Turning to documentation -- if the description is in fact valid --

Correct. I wrote telegraphically, but would mention in help the need to hold
down "Ctrl" when making selections.  Also, that Ctrl can be released, without
losing selection, but should always be pressed when clicking in the document,
if the intent is to preserve selection.

Confirm. But if I select at least one character in the target list (and leave
the cursor there),then the context menu works. 

(I could add a paragraph after "place cursor in list" like:  "To use the
context menu, select at least one character where the cursor is finally
placed."
