But then I clicked on empty space and BOTH words, the one bolded and the one not 'scrunched'. I opened an OLD document - the first I created with 4.0.1.2 in which I first encountered the problem and bolded a word within it successfully. So, it isn't an 'every time' problem, though it was when I was creating that document!
