Subject: eGroups.com: Apology and explanation
Just remembered that previous message would probably not get
to the mailing list because it was sent from an address that is
not subscribed to the list. Sending again from an address
that I know is subscribed. Reply-To address:

Dan and members of the [EMAIL PROTECTED] list,
I apologize for any trouble that my actions may have caused you.
Here is what happened. I was on this list for a long time.
This year the flow of messages was interrupted several times.
Last time it re-started I received only two messages.
I immediately sent one message to the list but did not
receive my message or any other messages.
That was on April 4, I think. I tried re-subscribing with no effect.
I looked at the http://libretto.basiclink.com/archive/
and noticed that February 19 was the last date.
I was certain that the list did not work any more.
I missed you guys so I collected addresses from the messages
archived this year and started this list on eGroups.com.
I have looked into free mailing list services for another reason
and this looked like a good service. I do not actually want
to run a mailing list myself.
I am glad that the old list is working.
However, it appears to me that there are still some problems.
After receiving the message from Rob,
yesterday I sent 3 subscription requests.
1. For [EMAIL PROTECTED] and did not get any response.
2. For another address in digest mode. No response yet.
3. For [email protected] and this worked.
Subscribing this address to the list starts a list archive
on this free mailing list archiving service.
So now you and I can see archived messages here:
http://www.mail-archive.com/libretto%40basiclink.com/
Try this. The messages appear in the archive without
a long delay.
I am still not getting the messages from [EMAIL PROTECTED]
in my mailbox. I wonder if other people may have
similar problems subscribing and we never hear from them.
Could somebody else try to reproduce this problem by
subscribing several addresses to the list? Do I have
a problem because my address begins with libretto@
the same as the name of the list?
Dan, it was not my intention to compete with your list.
I certainly do not want to split the list.
I think one large list is better than two small lists.
I do not know if you have personal investment in and
attachment to the mailing list software that you are using now.
If the problems I described are difficult to fix
I propose eGroups.com free service as an alternative to consider.
There are also other free mailing list services.
Your web site can still be the focal point pointing the service
without loosing continuity. Just because I started this
group on eGroups.com, does not mean that I have to run it.
Actually I prefer not to. I think eGroups.com allows for several
'moderators'. In quotes because I started it as an unmoderated list.
Still it recognizes one or more members as 'moderators'.
Administrator is the word I prefer to use.
I am in no way affiliated with eGroups.com.
All of these actions were initiated by myself and not by eGroups.com.
This is the first time I tried to use eGroups.com service
and I may have made some mistakes in how I actually added members.
Remember that I was acting under a mistaken impression that the
[EMAIL PROTECTED] was not working at all.
I take all the blame and responsibility for my actions.
The eGroups.com service is in no way responsible.
I hate spam as much as any of you hates spam,
spamming was not my intention.
Please do not blacklist me at eGroups.com,
I may need to use their service for other purposes.
I will not send further messages through [EMAIL PROTECTED]
However I suggest to those of you who are already entered as members
of this group to send a few messages. Evaluate the service just
in case we need an alternative service for this mailing list.
If we conclude that all problems with [EMAIL PROTECTED]
software are fixed and that we do not need an alternative,
I would then delete this group from eGroups.com.
