I just looked on my enhanced replicator. The slot is there too with the
wierd little icons also.
It is a security slot, designed for the Kensington ( or clone ) lock system.
It's a little doodad that hooks in there, almost impossible to describe but
makes lots of sense when you see it work. You lock the doodad to a cable
that you glue to a desk or otherwise secure it to something big.
Many laptops have them. Some Libretto replicators and mini-replicators have
the slots too. At first I thought it was stupid, ( why protect the dock and
not the laptop? ) until I realized the lock, in use, interferes with the
release mechanism when the replicator is connected. The theory is that one
cannot seperate the laptop from the replicator that is locked to something
immovable.
In practice though I think the Libretto can be easily seperated from the
replicator without properly releasing the latch.
